Do More Mondays - #33 - "The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society"

Hiya!  Another week means another reason to challenge yourself to do more for those who cannot in this world.  I've been told that my charitable donations have inspired others and I'm very happy for that.  Even if you cannot give, knowing that there is distress out there and creating awareness is just as important.  But many people and things inspire me as well.  Thanks to a recent podcast, I really feel for what they're doing and giving for ~ "Cure Blood Cancers!

That is why this week I'm donating $50 to 'The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society' ~ the world's largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer.  Their mission is: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.  They are working to accomplish this by funding lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and provides free information and support services.

Leukemia is a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow, the spongy center of bones where our blood cells are formed. The disease develops when blood cells produced in the bone marrow grow out of control.  About 43,050 people are expected to develop leukemia in 2010.  Lymphoma is the name for a group of blood cancers that develop in the lymphatic system. The two main types are Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL).  In 2010, about 628,415 people are living with lymphoma or are in remission (no sign of the disease). This number includes about 153,535 people with Hodgkin lymphoma and 474,880 people with NHL.

I challenge anyone to do more.
