Do More Mondays - #42 - "Sea Shepherd Conservation Society"

Hiya!  Another week means another reason to do more for those who cannot!  This week I'm following the example of a local fur ~ she's asking everyone to help saving marine life by signing an online petition.  This petition promotes the creation of more marine life sanctuaries in key areas of the Australian coast.  90% of what lives there is unique but only 1% of it is protected from fishermen, whalers, oiler, developers, etc.  It takes little effort for your voice to be heard while making a big contribution to something great for the future!

This week my donation goes out to 'Sea Shepherd Conservation Society' ~ a non-profit marine conservation organization that uses direct action tactics to protect sealife from fishing, whaling, and seal hunting.  Most of the group's recent activities take place in international waters and have a strong focus on public relations to spread their message via the media.  In 2008, 'Animal Planet' began filming a weekly series called 'Whale Wars' based on She Shepherd's encounters with Japanese whaling fleets in the Southern Ocean.  Their operations have included scuttling and disabling whaling vessels at harbor, intervening in Canadian seal hunts, ramming other vessels, trying to temporarily blind or disorient whalers with a laser device, throwing bottles of foul-smelling butyric acid onto vessels at sea, boarding of whaling vessels while at sea, and seizure and destruction of drift nets at sea.  Critics have called their direct action violent while some governments and organizations have referred to them as terrorists.

Sea Shepherd claims that their aggressive actions are necessary as the international community has shown itself unwilling or unable to stop species-endangering whaling and fishing practices.

I challenge anyone to do more.
