One of the things that came to mind was that parents are not able to keep an eye on their children all the time. That might be a scary thought but they and their educators can teach them how to be safe. The Canadian Centre for Child Protection is a registered charity dedicated to the personal safety of all children. Their goal is to reduce child victimization by providing programs and services to the Canadian public.
Their national programs include cybertip.ca, missingkids.ca, kidsintheknow.ca and commit2kids.ca as well as numerous other resources and educational tools. The latest support for youth launched last winter - needhelpnow.ca - to those who have been negatively impacted by a sexual picture/video being shared by peers. The site provides teens with the practical steps they can take to regain control over the situation. In 2012-2013, 96% of Canadian Centre's revenue funded their programs.
It's disturbing that these things happen but reporting makes a difference just as much as educating ~ it's in your control.
(haven't gotten my receipt yet so this screen cap will have to do for now)
I challenge anyone to do more.
