I've got food on my mind. At work I'm surrounded by food and at home I'm often watching videos about food. Furthermore from work to home I often takeaway food, too much food. I try to do what I can with excess - such as giving to the needy - but sometimes there just isn't anyone around.
I have never experienced hunger and I wish no one ever has to. Food security isn't just a third world problem - poverty is locally prevalent and I want to do something about it. That is why this week I'm making a donation to Meal Exchange ~ a youth-driven charity working to achieve a more secure and sustainable food system on campuses and with communities across Canada.
They engage, educate and mobilize youth to improve their local food systems; by connecting them to networks of like-minded people, creating innovative solutions and empowering their leadership development. Some of the unique programs Meal Exchange has provided youth with volunteer opportunities include: national food drives, food security workshops, community kitchens and gardens, or by organizing campus stakeholders to help bring more local food to campus.
A donation to Meal Exchange is an opportunity to give students the tools, knowledge and support to be food systems leaders on their campuses and in their communities.
I challenge anyone to feed social change and to do more.
