Do More Mondays - #7 - "Direct Relief International"

Hiya!  Another week, another donation ~ it's the least that I can do to give back to this world.  Someday I'd like to do something with a greater impact by giving my time and energy volunteering.

I'm donating $10 to "Direct Relief International" ~ an organization that provides medical assistance to improve the quality of life for people affected by poverty, disaster, and civil unrest at home and throughout the world.  They work to strengthen the in-country health efforts of their partners by providing essential material resources such as medicines, supplies and equipment.  In developing countries, financing health services is extremely difficult. The trained health professionals in medically underserved communities represent the most important part of the healthcare infrastructure. Direct Relief’s support enables them to stay productively engaged so their patients can receive needed care.

Through Direct Relief International I can designate where I'd like my donation to go towards, and I've chosen 'Emergency Relief - Haiti Cholera Outbreak'.  If you haven't heard in recent news, a deadly hurricane swept through Haiti earlier this month not only killing many people but also flooding most regions.  The flood has aided the spread of cholera - a bacteria that causes severe diarrhea and vomitting which often leads to death by dehydration.  It's tragic knowing that Haitians have also suffered a major earthquake earlier this year.

I challenge anyone to do more.
