Do More Mondays - #29 - "The War Amps"

Hiya!  It's a new month with a lot of big news happening around the world ~ from the Royal wedding to Osama death to the Canadian election.  I want to reserve my opinions about each but I do feel the need to respond to the middle occurance through this weeks donation.  Although there is a little less terrorism and war in the world today because of one person, it's easy to forget about the affects left behind by its legacies.  Innocent people - whether here at home or on the other side of the world - are the true victims that must live with these haunting pasts; some facing greater challenges than others.

That is why this week I'm making a donation to 'The War Amps' ~ a Canadian nation-wide registered charitable organization founded in 1918 and operated under the direction of war amputees.  In 1946, the 'Key Tag Service' was launched as a sheltered workshop where war amputees could not only work for competitive wages, but also provide a service to Canadians that would generate funds for the organization and supporting programs.  Many of the programs offered today involve child amputee assistance, safety education and prevention, family support, and research in prosthetics and amputation.  Even though this charity began because of war veterans, many amputees are unfortunately born without limbs or raised in war-torn areas.  Their disabilities shouldn't limit their potentials and opportunities to live as normal human beings.

I challenge anyone to do more.
