Hiya! I hope everyone had a pleasent Monther's Day weekend. Suffices to say you should show your love and appreciation to the ones you care about everyday because not everyone is so fortunate to have someone look after them. People might go without all kinds of things - food, shelter, education, health - but not often do we think about the nurturing bonds that are essential in our development.
"On my block, women get respect and trust/
Cause when you diss a woman you dissin her fetus/
And dissin our unborn children will defeat us..."
~ from "The Teacha's Back" by KRS-One
That is why this week I'm making a donation to 'North York Women's Shelter' ~ a safe refuge that offers support and hope for women and their children who are survivors of violence and abuse. Through the various programs in place at the Shelter, their goal is to help the women and children who come through their doors get a new start in their lives. They believe it is a basic human right to live without fear of physical and emotional abuse. By educating the public on the scope and severity of violence against women and children, it will initiate positive change in society because womenabuse is a societal problem and not a private matter.
I challenge anyone to do more.
