Do More Mondays - #39 - "The Toronto Public Library Foundation"

I feel like an idiot.  I spent a lot of time looking into a cause that could use some help only to find out that it wasn't just ~ which is why this weeks post comes close to the end of the day.  Up until now I haven't made it formally known that I do hold some biases when contributing to charities.  I do not support organizations with religious or anti-LGBT missions and backgrounds.  I like helping my local community before neighbouring countries or international aids.  And I pass on issues that I consider lost causes ~ where, historically, relief has been given but no advances or improvement have been made.  I am not here to diminish good intentions, but I do feel a certain responsibility not to perpetuate inequity.

This week I'm making a donation to 'The Toronto Public Library Foundation' ~ a registered charity that provides essential resources for the enhancement of Toronto Public Library and to allocate funds to priority needs not supported by municipal funding.  They believe that the character and quality of a city depends on the resources available to its people.  Toronto's library system is the largest in North America and busiest in the world, with an estimated 17.5 million visitors annually.  To date the foundation has raised over $46 million, with funds going to improve and expand collections, enhance programs and services, upgrade technology, and revitalize community spaces to respond to the changing needs of the people of Toronto.

I challenge anyone to do more.
