Yesterday more than one million people showed their support at the Toronto Pride parade ~ I am fiercely proud of my city and how open we can be! There were many corporate sponsors and nonprofit organizations as well, which made me plenty more aware of who I can help for a good cause.
That is why this week I'm making a donation to 'PFLAG: Parents, Families, & Friends of Lesbians and Gays' ~ a multi-national non-profit organization which brings together family and friends of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons. They help those who struggle with issues of sexual orientation and gender identity by providing 24/7 phone and web support, local Chapters, and school awareness programs, among other things. PFLAG promotes the health and well being of LGBT persons, their families and friends through: support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to enlighten an ill-informed public; and advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights. By provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity, they can inspire change.
I encourage everyone to check out their website ~ there is a wealth of information, videos and touching stories.
I challenge anyone to do more.
