Helping can be a straightforward processes ~ to give food, money, medicine, shelter, education, etc. How about opportunity? We don't often think of it as a service, instead a product of how we've chosen to help. I believe volunteers - often the middlemen - understand this best. So I thought it was creative when I came across Hope Air while reading their Charity Intelligence.
Since 1986, Hope Air has been arranging free flights to get financially-disadvantaged Canadians to the healthcare they need. Having lived in Toronto my entire life, it is often difficult to imagine not living in a large urban centre where specialized medical technologies are readily available. Hope Air helps make Canada’s universal healthcare accessible by bridging the distance between home and hospital, patient and physician. In 2013 they provided 7090 flights.
There is a wealth of information, financial statements, annual reports, quarterly newsletters and all measures of success that I encourage everyone to check out. I especially enjoyed reading this inspiring story.
I challenge anyone to do more and to take kindness to new heights.
