Do More Mondays - #123 - Casey House

It's been a long and challenging day at work ~ one's were I truly want to just swear at the world and drown the exhaustion with alcohol.  But I don't because it's a hard day and not a hard life ~ a life I have chosen.  In those moments I always remind myself that someone out there has it worse than me and that I have a lot to be grateful about.

People do not choose to get ill, however, some people must live a chronic life of sickness and stigmatization.  HIV/AIDS is one of those diseases affecting gay and straight, men and women.  There are treatments and communities of compassion.  I feel very strongly about the awareness and affects of that HIV/AIDS has on social perception because I am bisexual, I know many gays and lesbians, and I know people who've lost loved ones to the disease.

Casey House is a specialty HIV/AIDS hospital that offers comprehensive and compassionate health care programs for clients and their families for over 25 years.  Their care seeks to maximize the individual's quality of life; the emphasis is on living rather than dying.  They recognize that when cure is not possible, providing emotional, social and spiritual care and comfort can be just as significant a contribution.
The resources and information about Casey House's access to care are thoroughly laid out on their website.  I particularly like the many 'ways to give' as well as the number of events they engage in.  I encourage anyone to read some of the stories or to simply check out their performance and accountability.

I challenge anyone to do more.
